Job Description:

Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic

The Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic reports to the shift supervisor and is responsible for all aspects of patient care that is rendered to the patient(s) treated by his/her team. The Paramedic, for all medical care, reports directly to the physicians on duty at Arnot Ogden Medical Center and Saint Joseph's Hospital and indirectly to the Service Medical Director.

All job descriptions are to be considered as the minimum. Additional duties and responsibilities may be added as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

1. NYS Paramedic certification.
2. NYS Drivers license.
3. Clean driving record.
4. STREMS Region Credentialed Status as Active (May be added after hire date)
5. ACLS Certification.
6. PALS Certification.
7. CPR Certification.
8. PHTLS Certification (not a requirement but strongly recommended).

Special Characteristics:

1. Ability to interpret written, oral, and diagnostic form instructions.
2. Ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high stress situations.
3. Ability to be unaffected by loud noises and flashing lights.
4. Ability to calculate weight and volume rations.
5. Ability to read English manuals, road maps, street signs, and address numbers in varying conditions.
6. Ability to document in writing all relevant information in prescribed format.
7. Ability to use computers and basic windows based programs.
8. Ability to converse with co-workers and hospital staff as to the status of the patient and conditions that are relevant to the patients illness or injury.
9. Ability to stoop, bend, and crawl on uneven terrain.
10. Ability to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, and moisture.
11. Ability to work in low light and confined spaces.
12. Completes successfully all in-service training and skill verification.
13. Maintains state and local certifications.
14. Inventories and services ALS equipment, supplies, and medications in accordance with applicable local, regional, state, and federal regulations.
15. Ensures that their assigned ambulance is equipped in accordance applicable regulations.
16. Performs BLS and ALS patient care in accordance with local, regional, and state protocols.
17. Records patient care rendered and circumstances regarding the illness and/or injury of a patient on proper forms.
